Getting Rid Of Unbelief

"...Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out? And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you. Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting." - Matthew 17:17-21

EXPLORATION

Definition: Unbelief is the opposite of FAITH, the absence of spiritual quality by which one has confidence in God. Unbelief is more than doubt; it is the withholding of the inward, conscious assurance and confidence in the TRUTH. That is, not having confidence in the divinely revealed TRUTH.

Hence: Biblical Faith is the spiritual quality by which men are held in a relationship of confidence in God. It is the practical submission of the entire man to the guidance and control of divinely revealed truth and this truth is contained in the Holy Bible. - (James 2:17, 19) The Bible says: "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." - Hebrews 11:1

INSPIRATION

Our Lord and Savor Jesus Christ, makes us to understand that unbelief will always denial us of the miraculous. This is what limits many of Christians and until we get rid of unbelief we may not be able to fulfill this WORD of TRUTH: "...and nothing shall be impossible unto you..." - Matthew 17:20

Every word of God has to be received with faith. When the word is not mix with faith it becomes unbelief to the hearer and the doer of the word. The Bible says: "Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it. For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it." - Hebrews 4:1-2, (Hebrews 4:9-16)

There are three types of unbelief namely:

  • Unbelief And Hardness Of Heart
  • Unbelief By Ignorance
  • Evil Heart Of Unbelief

Unbelief And Hardness Of Heart: This is the kind of unbelief that many Christians manifest out of fear and lack of faith in what they say or confess. By thinking, "this kind or this miracle" can only be done by someone else, someone superior than you; someone more powerful than you; where as the Holy Spirit in you is greater than anything you might think of. Is like not having confidence in the Spirit of God in us.

The disciples are a good example, they have been with the Lord like many us but Jesus said to them: "Then Jesus answered and said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you?..."- Matthew 17:17-18

He said to them again:  "Afterward he appeared unto the eleven as they sat at meat, and upbraided them with their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they believed not them which had seen him after he was risen." - Mark 16:14

Jesus understands this very type of unbelief, so HE gave us the solution to get rid of it.  HE says: "...this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting." - Matthew 17:21

He was not only talking about the demo HE drove out of the young man but also referring to the disciples, to you, to all believers that we need to be prayerful and fasting to get rid of unbelief.  How many Christian are fasting or praying today! They have left that part for pastors, prophets, evangelists, and teachers... and so on.

Unbelief By Ignorance: This is the state of unbelief present in the life of anyone who has not received Jesus Christ as Lord and personal Savor -People who dwell in spiritual darkness. People who have not embraced the light of God nor partaken in the new life promised by our Lord Jesus.

Here is what Paul also says but this: "And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who hath enabled me, for that he counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry; Who was before a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and injurious: but I obtained mercy, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief. And the grace of our Lord was exceeding abundant with faith and love which is in Christ Jesus." -1 Timothy1:12-14. (Romans 10:3)

Evil Heart Of Unbelief: This is the most dangerous type of unbelief, we called this "SIN" our prayer is that none of you shall fall into this kind of unbelief because it provokes the wrath of God.

The Bible says: "Wherefore I was grieved with that generation, and said, They do alway err in their heart; and they have not known my ways.  So I sware in my wrath, They shall not enter into my rest.)  Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God."- Hebrews 3:10-12

People who possess this type of unbelief are people who have seen the glory of God, partake of HIS blessing and tasted of the miraculous and still rejected the LORD because of their evil desire. Such is what the Bible says: "Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea; And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea; And did all eat the same spiritual meat;  And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.  But with many of them God was not well pleased: for they were overthrown in the wilderness." - 1 Corinthians 10:1-5 (1 Corinthians 10:6-13).

Here is what the Bible says again: "While it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation. For some, when they had heard, did provoke: howbeit not all that came out of Egypt by Moses. But with whom was he grieved forty years? was it not with them that had sinned, whose carcases fell in the wilderness? And to whom sware he that they should not enter into his rest, but to them that believed not?  So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief." - Hebrews 3:15-19

This week: God wants us to get rid of unbelief so that we can manifest HIS glory in our life. HE wants us to take up praying and fasting as part of our living. And HE said "...and nothing shall be impossible unto you..." - Matthew 17:20

Beloved of the Lord! We want to assure you today that nothing shall be impossible for you that believe! Amen!

Remember the Bible says: "And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover." - Mark 16:17-18

We are praying for you,

It's our JOY to see you blessed!
