The Nature Of Sin

"Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin." - James 4:17

EXPLORATION

SIN in Hebrew is "HATA-AH". In Greek it is "HAMARTA" both meaning "A falling away", or "missing the right path." Sin means a departure from the original state of being and existence. (Jude 6)

The idea of sin cannot be conceived without a LAW and a LAWGIVER. If there is anyone who has the power to decide what should be and what should not be, what should be done and what should not be done, it is God, the Creator of all things. This is because unto Him shall all men give accounts of the stewardship of their lives. He stands as the LAWGIVER and Supreme Ruler of the whole universe. In consent with this, Isaiah said "For the LORD is our judge, the LORD is our LAWGIVER, the LORD is our king; he will save us." - Isaiah 33:22 James says, "There is one LAWGIVER, who is able to save and to destroy ..." - James 4:12. "For where there is no law there is no offence ..." - Romans 4:15. "...for by the LAW is the knowledge of sin" - Romans 3:20. "Whosoever (therefore) committeth sin transgresseth also the LAW, for sin is a transgression of the LAW of (GOD)" –1 John 3:4 (James 4:17, 1 John 5: 17).

INSPIRATION

The sinfulness of sin is that it is against God even when the offence committed is against others or ourselves (Genesis 39:9, Psalm 51:4). Therefore, SIN is everything in Disposition, Purpose and Conduct of a person that is contrary to the revealed will of God.

The Bible says: "For even Christ pleased not himself; but, as it is written, The reproaches of them that reproached thee fell on me." - Romans 15:3.  (Corinthians 13:5, 2 Timothy 3:1-2)

Sin arises when self is put in the place of God. This usually results in rebellion or hostility to God. Whether sin is by commission or omission, the truth is that there is a transgression of the LAW of GOD (Matthew 23:23).

Man is a free moral agent, having the power to choose between evil and good. This puts the responsibility on him for any sin he commits. The bible says "To him that knoweth to do good and doeth it not to him it is sin" - James 4:17. "The wickedness of the wicked shall be upon ..." - Ezekiel 18:20.

ORIGINAL SIN

This expression has always been used to denote the disobedience of Adam and Eve that made them lose their ORIGINAL state of righteousness. (1 John 5:17, Romans 1:29-32) So Original Sin is a departure from Original Righteousness, which is a separation from GOD.

SIN IS UNIVERSAL
The Bible says: "Wherefore , as by one man sin entered into the world , and death by sin ; and so sin passed upon all men , for all have sinned" - Romans 5:12 Again it says, "The Lord looked down from heaven upon the children of men , to see if there were any that did understand, and seek God. They are all gone aside, they are all together become filthy: There is none that doeth good, no not one."  - Psalm 14:2-3. "If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us." - 1 John 1:8 (Psalm 58:3, Romans 5:14)

SIN IS A DECISION, NOT A RESULT 
It is in our heart that the seed of sin is planted. We envy, covet, lust, etc. all in our heart even if for just a brief moment. The thought being there is not sin IF we immediately recognize it for what it is, reject it, and claim authority over it. It is up to us to get back on the “right path” the moment we realize we are about to stray away from it. Satan realizes it is difficult to get a great person of God to commit a sin that will destroy them so he moves them by on little step at a time. He gets us comfortable at our new level and then moves us to the next one until, before we realize it, our life or the lives of others are destroyed. We have to be ever vigilant to keep from falling away even if it seems so small and “harmless”. It is a decision moment by moment, day by day.

This Week: God has already made a way through HIS Son Jesus. All we need to do is to receive the gift of God. Our blessings depend on this gift of God, our health, family, business, career, government and the world in general. It is FREE! It is the LOVE of GOD toward the world. It is Salvation through Jesus Christ.

SALVATION THROUGH CHRIST
The Bible says: "And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit." - 1 Corinthians 15:45

"For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ. Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life. For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous. Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound: That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord."- Romans 5:17-21

Remember the Bible says, "For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them." - Ephesians 2:10
