Zeal without Knowledge (Part 2)

"And it came to pass in those days, when Moses was grown, that he went out unto his brethren, and looked on their burdens: and he spied an Egyptian smiting an Hebrew, one of his brethren. And he looked this way and that way, and when he saw that there was no man, he slew the Egyptian, and hid him in the sand. And when he went out the second day, behold, two men of the Hebrews strove together: and he said to him that did the wrong, Wherefore smitest thou thy fellow?" - Exodus 2:11-13

EXPLORATION

Through traditional history we found that, Moses' father Amram, was told in a dream that Moses was a special child. Somehow, Moses could have had this information through his parents or could even have had a strong impression on his mind that he should do something to help his brethren out of bondage. Could even be that since he realized that he was not the son of Pharaoh's daughter, his compassion for his brethren put a compelling desire in him to help free his people from bondage.

Israel is a spiritual nation not like any ordinary one. Whatever affects them God handles spiritually. For example, the call of Abraham was spiritual (Genesis 12:1-4), the choice of Isaac over Ishmael was spiritual (Genesis 17:18-19) and the choice of Jacob over Esau was also spiritual (Roman 9:13). So, whatever affects them will require God's own intervention though through human agents.

INSPIRATION

God does his work in his own ways and at his own time through human agents like the prophets, kings, priests, the apostles, gospel ministers and even unbelievers. The Christian life is spiritual as well and should be directed by the Holy Spirit. (Roman 8:14, Galatians 5:16-17).

There could be cases in which God puts impressions of what he wants to do in our minds, or by pure revelation, through prophecy, dreams, word of knowledge etc. It is important to further seek his face to know when and how these would be fulfilled. Though a believer may have the zeal to do God's work, it is necessary to wait for God's time.

The Bible says: "For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds; " -2 Corinthians 10:3-4

"...Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the LORD of hosts" - Zechariah 4:6

- Exodus 2:11-12

Any step we take in life as children of God which is not guided by the spirit is most likely to lead to trouble.  The Bible says: "O LORD, I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps."  -Jeremiah 10:23 (Proverbs 16:25)

Moses had thought he was helping his brethren and so killed the Egyptian.

"And when he went out the second day, behold, two men of the Hebrews strove together: and he said to him that did the wrong, Wherefore smitest thou thy fellow? And he said, Who made thee a prince and a judge over us? intendest thou to kill me, as thou killedst the Egyptian? And Moses feared, and said, Surely this thing is known. Now when Pharaoh heard this thing, he sought to slay Moses. But Moses fled from the face of Pharaoh, and dwelt in the land of Midian: and he sat down by a well." - Exodus 2:13-15

Moses applied human idea and method in handling a spiritual matter that affected a spiritual people. God's concern for Israel was more than Moses' own. God has the best idea of how to deal with issues affecting our lives hence we need to seek to know HIS will, and always submit to it at all times. The Bible says: "This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh." - Galatians 5:16

Remember the Bible says: "Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding." -Proverbs 3:5

You are blessed, we love you!
