"A great wave of persecution began that day, sweeping over the church in Jerusalem; and all the believers except the apostles were scattered through the regions of Judea and Samaria. (Some devout men came and buried Stephen with great mourning.) But Saul was going everywhere to destroy the church. He went from house to house, dragging out both men and women to throw them into prison." - Acts 8:1-3 Read (John 17:15-19)
EXPLORATION
The Bible revealed to us that GOD is LIGHT and HE is the TRUTH. The WORD of GOD is TRUTH and in this TRUTH is LIFE.
Jesus said Father: "Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth. As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world. And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth." - John 17:17-19
Hence Shadow on the other hand by definition: Is an area where direct light from a source cannot reach due to an obstruction by an object. - (Wikipedia)
That is the moment an object is a degree away from the direct light source, it creates a shadow.
INSPIRATION
When we begin to handle spiritual things with flesh or canal minded in the things of the Truth we create a shadow of the truth and people that follows us, or listen to us walk in the shadow.
Saul at the early stage of his understanding of God prosecuted the Church not knowing he was walking in the understanding of man. He was interpreting the spiritual law with the knowledge of man. He thought he was doing the work of God because the majority accepted it. (Acts 9:1-2)
There are two categories of people that walk in "The shadow of the Truth".
The first category includes people like Saul before He was encountered by Jesus on the way to Damascus (Acts 9:3-6).
People who want to do the will of God, but lack the knowledge of God. People who have not seen the light but have a zeal for the light.
When we applied human ideas and method in handling a spiritual matter that will affect spiritual people it becomes "A Shadow of the Truth". God does his work in his own ways and at his own time through human agents like the prophets, kings, priests, the apostles, gospel ministers and even unbelievers. The Christian life is spiritual as well and should be directed by the Holy Spirit. (Roman 8:14, Galatians 5:16-17).
Also the word of God says: "Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding." -Proverbs 3:5
Moses did the same; he killed the Egyptian to save an Israelite. Here is what the Bible says:
"And when he went out the second day, behold, two men of the Hebrews strove together: and he said to him that did the wrong, Wherefore smitest thou thy fellow? And he said, Who made thee a prince and a judge over us? intendest thou to kill me, as thou killedst the Egyptian? And Moses feared, and said, Surely this thing is known. Now when Pharaoh heard this thing, he sought to slay Moses. But Moses fled from the face of Pharaoh, and dwelt in the land of Midian: and he sat down by a well." - Exodus 2:13-15
Any step we take in life as children of God which is not guided by the spirit is most likely to lead to trouble. The Bible says: "O LORD, I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps." -Jeremiah 10:23 (Proverbs 16:25).
The same Bible also says: "...Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the LORD of hosts" - Zechariah 4:6
The second category includes people who have seen the light, or have partaken of the blessings of God. People that have been feed by the word of God, but have not allowed their flesh to die to Sin. They always thought they could manipulate the things of God. Their zeal for the light is whatever they can gain, such as fame or in the quest to fulfill self desire over the things of God.
People like "Hymenaeus and Philetus" that the Bible says: "But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness. And their word will eat as doth a canker: of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus; Who concerning the truth have erred, saying that the resurrection is past already; and overthrow the faith of some." -2 Timothy 2:16-17
The world loves "The Shadow of the Truth" but not the TRUTH, for the TRUTH is the LIGHT of GOD and the world hates the LIGHT, but loves darkness because it appeals to their moral life and thinking. (John 3:19-20)
This week: Beloved, we have to guide ourselves against "Self Satisfaction". It produces shadow of the truth. When the majority becomes so comfortable with what you're preaching, it means you have to check yourself, you might be preaching the shadow of the truth but not the TRUTH.
Finally, the power of God does not reside in the shadow but in the TRUTH. Jesus tells us the TRUTH, He said: "Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit." - John 3:5-6
Remember Jesus says: "Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again." - John 3:7
