Personal Devotion A Must For Every Believer

"I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air: But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway." -1 Corinthians 9:26-27

EXPLORATION

Personal Devotion is the act of refraining one's self from anything evil or ungodly persons and events in order to worship and serve God in truth and in spirit. It is a continuous process in which every interest of the Christian or gospel minister is centered on people, events, books, information and associations that will enhance his spiritual development and commitment in worshipping and serving the Lord. All these will be with a view to preparing himself for eternity. Whatsoever therefore, shall be to the contrary he will strive to avoid.

INSPIRATION

This entails Holiness. Holiness is the quality of moral and spiritual excellence. This is the attribute of God that the Holy Spirit imparts into a person when he accepts Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior of his life. In both old and new testaments of the Bible, God requires His people to show forth this spiritual quality of life. And so it is written "And ye shall be holy unto me: for I the LORD am holy, and have severed you from other people, that ye should be mine." - Leviticus 20:26. (1 Peter 1:15-16).  God wants to walk with us in the beauty of his holiness. Of course, birds of the same feather flock together. A minister may be endowed with many spiritual gifts, but if the quality of his life is not of moral and spiritual excellence, his life and ministry will be in jeopardy because the Bible says: “Without holiness no man shall see the Lord" - Hebrews 12:14b.

The consecration of the minister, among other things, shall be to steadily grow in Faith, Prayer in the Knowledge of Scripture, Purity of the Heart, Godly Zeal, and Dedicated Service etc. He has to determine to live and work in the perfect will of God against all odds. It requires personal spiritual discipline in resisting and refraining from every worldly enticement, lust, temptation, corruption and the immorality that drown men in eternal perdition.

The devotional life of the believer or gospel minister is therefore, the most important aspect of his spiritual life and ministry. If at the end of his time here on earth, he does not enter the kingdom of God, he would have wasted his life. Paul would have remembered examples of people who were once ministers of God but at the end of their ministry did not make heaven. So, in his resolve, he said: "I therefore so run not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air: But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a cast away" - 1 Corinthians 9:26-27. David once had a problem with his spiritual life. When he eventually recovered, he started appreciating the need for constant personal consecration. He regularly embarked on self-examination. In one of his moments of personal devotion, he said this prayer "Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting." - Psalm 139:23-24

God has made prescriptions in the Holy Bible on how a believer should constantly consecrate his life and ministry to God in order to overcome the world and make heaven. Paul said to Timothy "Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting might appear to all. Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shall both save thyself, and them that hear thee" - Timothy 4:15-16

This Week: Are you going to do exactly what Apostle Paul told Timothy? Are you going to see that you take heed unto to the doctrine of the world of God? Beloved, you will surely overcome. You will rise above all situations that have come again you. You will have good success in your life has you abide in HIM JESUS CHRIST and consecrate thyself to the LORD your GOD. Your personal Devotion is a must!

Remember the Bible says: "But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy." -1 Peter 1:15-16

You are blessed, we love you!
