Fight The Good Fight Of Faith

Jesus said: "And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force." - Matthew 11:12

In Paul's Letter to Timothy, he said: "Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses."  -1 Timothy 6:12, (2 Timothy 2:3-4).

EXPLORATION

In various ways the Bible portrays the Christian as a fighting soldier. There is a fight to be fought by you as a believer; a spiritual battle.

When a person repents and accepts Jesus as Lord and Savior of his life, there is a lot of blessing, both spiritual and physical that God makes available to him as a citizen of HIS kingdom.

  • (a)     Enjoying your salvation by living a holy life. (Romans 8:1-2).
  • (b)     Having the Holy Spirit to overcome the evil in the world, that is: the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes and the pride of life. (1 John 2:15-17, 1 Peter 2:10-11)
  • (c)     Get the anointing of the Holy Spirit to work for God and be blessed as joint heirs with Christ. (Romans 8:17, Ephesians 2:5-6)
  • (d)     Having prosperity in your family life, business, careers, Job, ministries and in good health. (Deuteronomy 28:11-13).

Hence, Satan the thief strives to hinder the children of God from possessing all that God has freely given to his people. (John 10:10)  The Bible says: "But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them." - 2 Corinthians 4:3-4.

This call for a spiritual fight to possess all that God says belongs to us as his children. The Bible says: "Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:  9 Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world." - 1 Peter 5:8-9)

INSPIRATION

The life and ministry of Joshua physically demonstrates the kind of war that a Christian is constantly engaged in. God had first told Moses that the land of Canaan and the regions around belonged to them. But the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites, Perizites, the Hivites and the Jebusites were still occupying the portion of land that God said belongs to Israel. As aggressive and warring nations, they were not willing to give up what God said belonged to his people. So, a long war was inevitable. Hence the Bible says "Fight the good fight of faith"

The first stage of the Christian life is being free from sin as the Israelites were freed from the bondage of the Egyptians. This can be done for us only by Christ as we accept him as Lord and Savior of our life. Thereafter we need to work out our salvation, which means we have to make use of the spiritual resources. God has put at our disposal in order to receive the blessings that belong to us as his children.

The Bible says: "Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling." -Philippians 2:12, 4:6. Read (Psalm 1:1-3).

As individuals, we need to keep our salvation and possess what God says belongs to us, and also go ahead to help others receive their own portion of God's blessings as well. Read (Joshua 1:12-15). In so doing we shall be more than conquerors.

When there, was a need to lead the people of God to the land of Canaan (the Promised Land). Joshua was the kind of man that qualified before God. In our previous weekly digest we recall the spiritual qualities that earned Joshua a succession to Moses. He was a humble man of faith, courageous, had inner strength and determination in doing the will of God. These are also the virtues required of any child of God who desires to possess his-full inheritance in the Lord and be used by God to help others receive theirs.

This week: Beloved! God can use you like Joshua to fight the fight of faith in helping others to be free from sin and every satanic oppression and affliction.

God said to Paul: "But rise, and stand upon thy feet: for I have appeared unto thee for this purpose, to make thee a minister and a witness both of these things which thou hast seen, and of those things in the which I will appear unto thee; Delivering thee from the people, and from the Gentiles, unto whom now I send thee, To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me." - Acts 26:16-18.

We all know how God greatly used Paul in his lifetime. God can also use you even in a greater way. Amen!

Remember the Bible says: "If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master's use, and prepared unto every good work." - 2 Timothy 2:21

You are blessed, we love you!
